Is iOS Traffic Actually Worth the Premium?
A common belief: iOS is premium, expensive traffic with extra-high purchasing power, so it’s worth paying when you target GEOs with wealthy users. Our stats prove the price part, too: iOS takes only 13-16% of total mobile traffic, and it’s about 75% more expensive than Android.
All of it sounds logical, but is it always true? We dug into our statistics, tortured our marketing managers a bit, and now we can go beyond the usual ‘it’s expensive’ talk.
Spoiler: you might be surprised.
All figures come from PropellerAds’ own network, July-August 2026: network averages and format breakdowns from a single week, country data from four weeks, since smaller GEOs need more volume to mean anything.
The Notorious iOS Premium: What Is It, Anyway?
If we take the whole PropellerAds network, we’ll see that iOS grabbed 5.25 bln mobile impressions in a single week, while Android took 33.54 bln. In percentage terms, iOS took 13.5% of impressions but swallowed 21.5% of advertisers’ spending.
The average CPM for iOS is $0.259 against $0.148 for Android.
Taking this into account, we clearly see that 1000 iPhone impressions cost about 1.75 times, or 75% more.
And no, we’re not making this up. These are real numbers from our dashboard:

So, is that difference really that big? Maybe just a sudden traffic spike? Nope, we checked this: the iOS share stayed between 13,0% and 16,2%, with the average premium between 1,39 and 1,75 times for 6 weeks in a row:

So, this premium iOS effect is not a coincidence or an accident. But why does it happen?
What’s Inside the iOS Average Price?
The reason iOS looked more expensive was simple: comparing network averages ignores formats. But they matter; look:

Popunder costs about 67 times more than In-Page Push: $1.011 per 1,000 impressions against $0.015, and Popunder makes up 23% of iOS impressions but only 11% of Android ones.
So here’s what actually happens: iOS is 12% more expensive on popunder, 12% cheaper on in-page push, and 45% cheaper on Telegram formats. The gap is not dramatic at all, but the overall average says iOS costs a whopping 1.75 times more. Yes, this is the classic ‘Bill Gates walks into a bar, and everyone becomes a millionaire on average’: iOS simply has more of the expensive format in it.
The main takeaway: comparing overall CPM only makes sense within a single format. So let’s do exactly that:

Viktoria Demskaya, PropellerAds Account Strategist: in fact, weighted across all PropellerAds formats in the comparison, iOS costs about 29% more than Android. The network average says 75%, but in reality, there’s no such drama.
Quick Fact About iOS CTR
One more thing we found out from our stats: on in-page push, which is about 90% of traffic where clicks exist at all, iOS gets around 7% fewer clicks than Android. On Telegram formats, the gap is even wider: iOS gets less than half the clicks.
But none of it matters much for overall campaign output, because iOS brings about 33% more conversions per 1000 impressions.
In simple terms, it might bring fewer clicks but higher-quality ones.
So, Where Is iOS worth it?
Now you see that iOS traffic is not THAT expensive. However, it does take more of your spending than Android, and the next logical step is to decide where you can safely pay more – and when it doesn’t make much sense.
Probably in wealthy countries? Well, no, it’s not that simple, and here’s why.
Note: we see the price of a conversion, but not what you earn from this conversion later. iOS users tend to spend more over time, so a more expensive conversion can still pay off. Everything below is about price only.

Why does it look like this? The explanation is pretty boring and obvious: competition.
In Tier-1, iOS is 39% of all impressions, and it takes 51% of everything advertisers spend there. Every advertiser planning a Tier-1 campaign wants that share, and most assume the same thing: iOS is premium, expensive traffic with extra-high quality. This huge demand is actually how we get a 1.66x premium in statistics.
In Tier-2/3, iOS is 10% of impressions and takes 13% of the spend, so fewer buyers are fighting over it, and the price stays closer to Android at 1.44x. So, Tier-2/3 wins on average, but the average is not your campaign: out of 74 countries, an iOS conversion is cheaper in 31 and more expensive in 38. Find yours below:

How to Test iOS Traffic Without Extra Spending?
Fair question. Here’s a step-by-step guide from Viktoria Demskaya:
Split the traffic before you do anything else
Run iOS and Android as separate campaigns from day one. In a combined campaign, the bid, the creatives, and the optimization rules are shared. As a result, the auto-optimization tool might, for example, read iOS’s lower CTR as underperformance and throttle it before it has a chance to show you how it can convert.
Fix your metrics
Most of the confusion around iOS comes from measuring it with numbers that can’t measure it.

Test, but test cheaply
- Hold everything constant except the OS. One format, one country, identical creatives, identical landing page. If more than one variable moves, you learn nothing.
- Start iOS at 1.3× your Android bid. Comparing on the same format, iOS costs from 12% to 45% more than Android. The bigger number you’ve seen comes from averaging all formats together, so why pay for it?
- Decide how many conversions you need, then run until you have them. iOS volume in Tier-2/3 is about ten times smaller than Android’s. So, in 10 days, you can collect enough data for Android, but it may take a little longer to gather data for the iOS campaign.
- Start in the right GEOs. Test iOS first in Turkey, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Thailand, Mexico, Japan, Morocco, Egypt, Brazil, Nigeria, and Vietnam – our data says it earns its price there. In the US, the UK, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Singapore, and Hong Kong, assume you’re overpaying until iOS proves you wrong.
- Set the stopping rule in advance, but hang it on CR and win rate, not on CPA vs CPM. Since CPA = CPM / (1000 × CR), ‘cost per conversion climbing faster than CPM’ just means CR is falling. Don’t read the numbers before 10-14k impressions and 2-3 days; until then, a high cost per conversion is the exploration phase, not a signal. Flat CR with rising CPA is a price problem (lift the bid ~10%, widen the inventory); falling CR is a slice-quality problem (blacklist zones, test a pre-lander). Cut slices, not the OS – rotation decides per zone and device, and iOS is already its own campaign. And check win rate and exclusions before you kill: an expensive CPM with low volume usually means the targeting removed the pool before the auction, not that you’re overpaying for the device.

So, the answer to the main question: iOS traffic comes at a premium for a reason. Globally, there’s less iOS traffic available compared to Android, while iOS users are generally considered a higher-value audience with stronger purchasing power. In my opinion, this makes competition for iOS traffic higher across the market, not just on PropellerAds, and naturally pushes prices up.
